November

• Portugese rights for The Linnet Bird were purchased by Circulo de Leitores, a Bertelsmann-owned company.  

• Linda was in Alberta at Audrey's Bookstore in Edmonton on November 24th and at McNally Robinson Booksellers in Calgary, on November 25th.   

October

• Polish rights to The Linnet Bird were sold to Bertlesmann.  

• October 11 - 14 — Linda was in Toronto reading at several Toronto Branch Libraries, including Bloor & Gladstone, Highland Creek, Evelyn Gregory & Weston    

• October 19-25 — Linda was a participant in the Vancouver International Writers Festival.  

- She was a panel member for “Veils Through Time”, reading and discussing the writing of historic fiction with Emma Donaghue and Sylvie Weil.
- She facilitated a one-day workshop on Historic Fiction at the Writing Centre at University of British Columbia.
- She participated in a Performance Works at The Afternoon Tea, with authors Shauna Singh Baldwin, Natalee Caple, Andrew Greig, Pauline Holdstock, Anosh Irani, and Damien Wilkins. The host is Bill Richardson.

• On October 7th The Linnet Bird is officially launched at McNally Robinson Booksellers, Grant Park, Winnipeg.  

September

• Spanish language rights for The Linnet Bird were bought by Mondadori, a division of Random House. The rights include Latin America.  

• September 21-26 Linda participated in the Winnipeg International Writers Festival.   

- With Greg Hollingshead, she took part in CBC Book Talk at McNally Robinson Portage Place, hosted by Ron Robinson.
- In conjunction with the Manitoba Writers Guild, she was a panel participation in a Between the Covers panel discussion - “What Writers Want” with agent Sally Harding and Intellectual Property Lawyer Carol-Lynn Schafer.
- Main Stage reading with Sheldon Currie, Robert Kroetsch, Margaret Macpherson, Robert McGill, Shyam Selvadurai, and Bettina von Kampen.

August

• Audio rights for The Linnet Bird were bought by Isis Publishing.

July

• German rights for The Linnet Bird were bought by Bertlesmann.   

• French rights for The Linnet Bird were bought by Les Editions Plon.   

• The Dutch edition of Mercy’s Birds— Vogels in mijn kop,- was published by Clavis in hardcover.   

June

On Sunday, June 13, Linda was a guest at Book Expo in Toronto. She signed advance reading copies of The Linnet Bird at the McArthur & Co. booth, and copies of Search of the Moon King’s Daughter at the Tundra booth.   

May

Toxic Love was chosen for inclusion on the PSLA — Pennsylvania School Library Association — Young Adult Top Forty Fiction Titles.   

• U.S. rights for The Linnet Bird were bought by Crown Publishing, a division of Random House. A Fall 2005 publication date is anticipated.   

• Linda spoke at the International Reading Association Conference in Reno, Nevada.   

April

• Dutch rights for The Linnet Bird were bought by Unieboek.   

• Large Print Rights of The Linnet Bird were bought by Isis Publishing.

February

Search of the Moon King's Daughter was chosen to be included in the 2004 YALSA Popular Paperbacks for the Young Adult list. The aim of this list, distributed throughout the United States, is to encourage readers aged 12-18 to read for pleasure by presenting them with lists of popular or topical titles that represent a broad variety of themes and genres. Teachers and librarians also use these lists for selecting and recommending books for teens.   

• Linda led a workshop entitled "Getting Inside the Young Adult Head" for the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia in Halifax.   

January

• A two-book contract with Headline Publishers in London, UK was signed. The first of the two adult novels is The Linnet Bird, which will be launched throughout the Commonwealth countries, September 2004. In Canada, McArthur & Company will be distributing the novel. The rights were sold by Sara Heller, Linda's agent at the Helen Heller Agency.   

Search of the Moon King's Daughter was nominated for the 2003-2004 White Pine Award. The White Pine Award was created to celebrate Canadian fiction written for young people, and is a readers' choice award for best Canadian novel in grades nine to ten in paperback, published in the year 2002.
